Let Light Shine

Bible Study Notes, from the journal fridays · June 5, 2020

This week’s #fromthejournalfridays takes us to one of my first journals where I wrote about the Bible. I am very different from the fresh-out-of-high-school girl that I was in 2009, but creating a habit of just being in the word was (and is) important to me, so I’m thankful for these words I poured over as a freshman in college.

“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 4.6

‘Let light shine out of darkness’ was said in Genesis 1.3 at the beginning of creation; in the same way, we are God’s new creation, because we have Christ in us, we can shine. Though our hearts were once as black as the shapeless creation God spoke into being. And now we know the glory of God through our personal savior, Jesus.

Therefore, we shine. Not because we are light but because we are the evidence of the light that has changed us–Jesus! So let’s shine!

Lord, it’s a crazy, pitch-black world out there. And that problem can only be solved with your light. Thank you for entrusting to us this light that we may shine.
